An alternator helps to power car’s electrical system. GPS, entertainment system, lights, ADAS systems, and of course the starting system – they all rely on electrical power. When the alternator fails, it no longer recharges the battery, and eventually the battery will run down. Without electrical power your vehicle cannot start or run.
At Adams Autoworx we recommend regular alternator testing. When you bring your vehicle in for an oil change, let us know that you would like to do an alternator test as well. While with every service we offer a complimentary vehicle inspection, it does not include alternator test. We do check the belt that drives the alternator, but we do no perform complete alternator testing.
So if you are at all concerned about the electrical output of the alternator, or if your vehicle has difficulty starting, power windows are slow to operate, service engine light is on, lights dim, or you notice electrical issues, like the radio turning itself off, let us know. Our nationally ASE certified technicians will inspect and test the alternator and let you know if it needs to be replaced, or if something else is causing these issues.
