Windshield Wipers Repair and Replacement in Castro Valley
Our Castro Valley auto repair facility provides full range of car services and repairs, including windshield wipers repair and replacement. At Adams Autoworx we can repair windshield wiper problems, and can also replace windshield wipers when they no longer do a good job of providing visibility during rain. As drivers, we don’t think about windshield wipers maintenance – until a winter storm catches us on the road - cracked wiper blades that don’t remove water or dirt can become a problem.
Windshield wiper blades should be checked every 6 to 12 months. Replacement is usually recommended between 12 and 24 months – depending on their condition. Windshield wiper blades are exposed to elements all the time. UV rays from the sun damage the rubber, blades are subject to wide range of temperatures – from freezing to 150 degrees Fahrenheit (when your car is parked outside on a sunny day, it acts like a greenhouse, and interior temperature can get really high). And of course the dirt and grime act as abrasives when wiper blades are in motion. Ozone in the air is also bad for the rubber blades.
Signs that wiper blades need replacement are pretty obvious. If you see they don’t get all the water off the windshield, like they used to, it’s time for a new pair. If you are doing a check before the rainy season, look for strips of rubber coming off, or cracks in the blade. Ideally you would replace blades before they get to this level of deterioration - because bare metal might be touching the windshield, and it could get scratched if a sudden downpour forces you to turn on windshield wipers.
While wiper blades replacement is something you will deal with every couple of years or so, wiper motor repair should be a rare occurrence. It is possible that your vehicle will never need windshield wiper motor repair, but if you notice that wipers seem to move slowly, or struggle to get the job done, it’s a likely sign that wiper motor is at fault. Whether it’s an outright failure to move, or not moving at certain speeds only, or the blades seem to “struggle” to move back and forth – bring your vehicle to Adams Autoworx in Castro Valley – our technicians will inspect the wiper motor, discover the root cause (mechanical issue, electrical problem, etc.) and fix it. Worst case scenario, we may have to replace windshield wiper motor.
Naturally, Adams Autoworx technicians can check the wiper blades for you. Next time you bring your vehicle for regular service, we can take a look at the wiper blades. If you don’t want to wait until the next regular service, let us know you are coming, and we will check the wiper blades for you. Our shop offers online appointments, or simply call the shop and we will set up a time that’s convenient for you.
